Scope
The Fort Calhoun Nuclear Generating Station is a decommissioned nuclear power plant situated on 660 acres along the Missouri River between Fort Calhoun and Blair, Nebraska, with an additional 580 acres maintained in a natural state under utility easement.
The plant is owned by the Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) and, during operations, generated 484 megawatts of electricity, representing 25 percent of OPPD’s net generation capacity.
The project scope was expanded to include the structural demolition and asbestos abatement of 20 building structures and appurtenances, totaling 1,000,000 square feet across 25 acres.
Demolition activities include structures up to 180 feet in height, encompassing the turbine building, ballistics enclosures, lift stations, underground utilities, and underground storage tanks (USTs).
